Communication is most effective when it’s person to person
We use words, tone, body language to effectively communicate
First impressions are made in just seconds from when you meet someone for the first time. I’ve heard various statistics from under 7 seconds when they first see you, to under 30 seconds. Whatever the statistic you’ve heard, it’s quick and often running out of your awareness.
Let’s start with communication
Professor Albert Mehrabian's communications model
7% of message pertaining to feelings and attitudes is in the words that are spoken or written
38% of message pertaining to feelings and attitudes is paralinguistic (the way that the words are said).
55% of message pertaining to feelings and attitudes is in facial expression.
Watch Amy Cuddy's TED Talk – Your body language shapes who you are.
Your posture can get you in to a better state of mind when you’re walking into a meeting, an interview, a networking meeting.
Stand in a power pose for two minutes. What power theme song will you add in?
“You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” Will Rogers,
