Engaging For Impact
Jul 20, 2018You read about ghSmart’s CEO Genome Project where they studied the behaviours of 17,000 successful C-Suite executives and identified 4 behaviours of successful leaders in my blog here.
Once again, the CEO Genome Project identified these as the four (4) behaviours of successful leaders.
- Decide with Speed & Conviction
- Engage for Impact
- Adapt Proactively
- Deliver Reliably
Today, I’m going to focus on the second behaviour of successful leaders: Engaging for Impact. What does it mean to engage for impact?
Well, it’s about being mindful of how you present yourself and how others perceive you.
When you know yourself well and have released all your limiting beliefs from your past and your projections of others, you can engage with others for greater impact.
As a leader, you need to be aware of your communication style and tailor your style to communicate effectively with those around you.
Listen effectively and understand what others are saying and, in some cases, not saying. As Steven Covey told us "first seek to understand, then to be understood". When you're able to truly comprehend the other person's point of view, then you’re able to truly engage for impact.
The question is, how do you clean up your filters, your projections, and your limiting beliefs so that you can truly pay attention to the other person?
As a leader, you must be fully aware of yourself, identify the assumptions that you jump to with people, be aware of your limiting beliefs and the projections you put on others and finally, identify and adapt your communication style to easily and naturally converse with everyone for the greatest impact.
Did you find this information helpful? How will you engage for impact from now on? Next week, the focus will be on Adapting Proactively.
