Key to Personal Power
Oct 15, 2021Would you be interested in learning what specifically you need to change in your thought process to be able to lean into greater success?
What I’m about to tell with you will change how you listen to that voice in your head.
I’m going to show you how you can shift your mindset to step into greater success.
I’ve been watching this internal shift happen with my clients for years. It seems so simple and yet the results are life changing.
It’s a term used in Psychology. I’ve been watching the shift happen for my clients, they’ve shared that they feel different, that they are thinking and acting differently and it feels easy!
It’s as simple as making a decision.
Have I intrigued you enough?
The psychological term is: “Locus of Control”.
Here’s the definition according to psychologist, Philip Zimbardo:
“A locus of control orientation is a belief about whether the outcomes of our actions are contingent on what we do (internal control orientation) or on events outside our personal control (external control orientation.)”
Great! So, what does this mean for you?
Simply put, your locus of control influences how you respond to events that happen in your life and how you are motivated to take action.
External Locus of Control:
A person with an external locus of control blames their circumstances on outside forces that they have no control over. They will credit their success to luck or chance. These people are continuously searching for a program or a person outside of themselves to solve their problems.
Sadly, because they are often blaming others, the circumstances, or the environment for their situation, they don’t find the answers they want, and they continue to search fruitlessly. This is an expensive problem for them.
In the world of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) we refer to people with an external locus of control as being “At Effect”.
You’ve heard this person make excuses and blame others for the fact that they didn’t do what they said they would do.
Internal Locus of Control:
On the other hand, a person with an internal locus of control takes responsibility for their actions and their results. They believe that their efforts will make a difference. Ultimately, they believe that they are in control of their life and their results. In the world of NLP, we refer to people with an internal locus of control as being “At Cause”.
Here’s the key to your success:
“Being at cause is the key to your personal power.”
You decide.
You can choose to be at effect, or you can be at cause. In other words, you can either choose reasons, or you can have results.
The next time you start to cast about for a reason or an excuse, shift your mindset to take personal responsibility and see how your world shifts.
When you choose to be at cause, you step into your personal power, you feel the shift in your motivation, you hear your self talk turn from “why bother?” to “how can I do this?” and you’ll see greater results and success than ever before.
This is the shift that I’ve be watching in my clients and it’s possible for you too.
So, you get to decide, will you make excuses and remain at effect or will you seek results and choose to be at cause?
Catch yourself, the next time you start to search for a reason or an excuse for not having the results you want.
Instead, ask yourself, how can I make this happen, achieve greater success, reach my goal?
I believe that you have the potential inside of you to BE who you want to be, to DO what you’re passionate about and to HAVE the success you’re striving for. It’s in you.
