Two Words That Will Stop Your Success

Have you ever been in a situation where someone kept asking everyone for advice, opinions and suggestions and yet when they heard anything, they completely shut it down?

I have.

I often attend networking, mastermind and group coaching sessions where we share ideas and learn from each other to grow ourselves and our businesses. I specifically remember a few people in these groups whom I’ve been watching over the past year or so continue to struggle with growing their business. As they are not my direct clients, I’m unable to coach them specifically other than offer ideas and suggestions. Unfortunately, they reject what everyone suggests to them. They keep coming to the meetings with similar problems and don’t have the growth they are seeking. They are incredibly frustrated that they simply can’t find the answers to their problems which makes my heart hurt for them.

Because these people aren’t my clients, I can’t coach them. I’d love to know when they decided that they knew all they needed to know for their success and to stop accepting ideas and suggestions from other people. When these fabulous people will stop responding with “I know” and instead enter with curiousity and wonder, their life and their business will completely transform for the better.

They will instead open up and be able to absorb all the love and wisdom from others so that they can succeed beyond their wildest dreams.

Of course, there may be some crazy suggestions and advice, but the real gift here is in building upon those ideas and being creative in problem solving. This is the basis of all successful brainstorming sessions.

Are you stopping yourself?

Next time you’re in a situation where you’ve asked for advice and when it’s given, you hear in your head phrases such “I’ve tried that and it didn’t work.” or “You don’t know me and all I’ve done.” or “I know that already.” or any other phrase that sounds like “I know”, then you’re doing it too. You’re stopping yourself from receiving ideas and suggestions, as crazy as they sound.

Instead, next time you’ve asked a question in a mastermind or group coaching session, then listen with wonder and curiousity. Allow the phrase “how can I…” make this work, do this, implement this into my business? Acknowledge and thank the person for sharing their ideas and build on their ideas to create your solution.

“I know” isn’t working, is it? Try instead “How can I?” You’ll feel the shift immediately and open up your creative wisdom to find your solution.
